The Akiles WireMac Combo is uniquelypositioned as virtually the only binding machine on the market capableof binding documents with either wire-o spines or plastic bindingcombs. That shouldn't be aproblem with this machine.Still, this is a great machine for small to medium volume projects. All this means is that thisis perhaps not the machine to choose if your plan is to use it for hugeruns of documents, or if you will frequently have the need for speed. This machine comes in a couple of differentconfigurations. If aesthetics matter to you at all, you should be aware that theWireMac Combo isn't the most sleek or modern looking piece of equipmentthat you are going to run across. You can also get the WireMac Combo in a two to one pitchversion which limits your options somewhat. Here are a few of the strengths and weaknesses of this machineas we see them. .If that sounds like you, you may want to investigate an electricbinding system and/or a modular one that features interchangeable dies. These things aren't exactly deal breakers, but they aresomething that we thought you should be aware of. The WireMacCombo is made from high quality steel components and is definitelybuilt to last. This gives yourorganization an impressive variety of options for the different bindingprojects that you may have, such as presentations, reports andproposals. The wires on the front thatallow you to hang pages on the spines, and the depth of punch margincontrol that allows you to set how far into the edge your holes arepunched, helping you to ensure the durability and usability of yourbooks. Also, it is fairly large for a systemof this type and it will take up its fair share of space on yourcounter. Thissystem comes with an ultra-duty wire closer on the front of themachine. This will provide you withthe ability to do your binding with wire-o, plastic combs, Zip Bind andwith specialty 0. Other wire closers will slip over time resulting in one end ofyour document being closed more than the other. Some of the other featuresthat we really like about the WireMac Combo are the fully disengageabledies which enable you to punch sheets that are custom size, and theopen throat design that allows for the binding of documents of justabout any size (using a two punch process).
Weaknesses:
For all itsversatility and functionality, the WireMac Combo is still a manuallyoperated machine when all is said and done. In fact, it is one of the most durable binding machinesthat we have tested. With the three to one pitch version of this system, youwill be able to bind documents using plastic combs, wire-o, GBCProclick and Zipbind, spiral coil, and spiral-o. Strengths:
